Sustainability

Sustainability is a central element of our ambitions. This is how we align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Profit

Contributing to more cost-effective maritime operations and providing savings for our customers and partners. Remota will achieve economic value creation by providing the infrastructure and technology for large-scale remote operations for a broad range of customers within different maritime segments. Through a growth in customer base and number of remote operations, we will both contribute to more cost-effective maritime operations and provide savings for our customers and partners.

People

Equal opportunities by providing safe, inclusive and family-friendly maritime workplaces. There is a need for more seafarers and other employees in the Norwegian maritime industry. However, not everyone can work at sea due to disabilities or other challenges, or due to the challenge of combining work at sea with family life and other commitments.

Through Remota services, the resource utilization onboard vessels can be improved. Additionally, services from the ROC can be inclusive by also attracting workers who of various reasons would have challenges working at sea.

Planet

Reducing the energy need from existing vessels and enabling the use of smaller unmanned vessels with considerably lower energy consumptions.

Remota® services have the potential to contribute to reducing the energy need and energy consumption from vessels and maritime operations. By both reducing the energy need associated with crew and passengers onboard existing vessels and by enabling the use of smaller energy-efficient unmanned vessels, emissions will be cut. Additionally, by enabling digital access services, many tasks that would require presence onboard the vessels can now be performed onshore, drastically reducing the need for travel for our customers and partners.

Remota® offers services enabling technological development and innovation in the maritime value chains, creating new opportunities for growth through automation and autonomy. Remota® services will enable productivity and encourage decent job creation within the maritime domain, including for persons with disabilities, health problems and other commitments.

In line with targets 8.2 (productivity), 8.5 (decent work for all) and 8.8 (safe and secure working environments)

Remota® is building resilient infrastructure for the maritime industries, aiming to be a frontrunner within remote operations and autonomous solutions. Remota® is involved in research initiatives and believes in the value of research-based innovation in the further development of our services.

In line with targets 9.1 (infrastructure) and 9.5 (R&D)

Through Remote Operation Centres (ROCs), Remota® can contribute to equal opportunities for maritime careers for certain marginalised groups who of various reasons can’t work at sea.

In line with target 10.2 (inclusion of all)

Remota® is a preferred partner within green and smart passenger transport and urban mobility projects. Through remote control and supervision coupled with zero-emission vessels, we make waterborne transport a cost effective and sustainable alternative to increased road transport and other land-based infrastructure.

In line with targets 11.2 (accessible and sustainable transport systems), and 11.6 (reduce environmental impact of cities)

Through Remota’s services, ship owners can reduce the energy need and energy consumption from their operations by having less people on board the vessels. Additionally, through remote access services, various tasks involving validation and control can be optimised, drastically reducing the need for travel.

In line with target 13.3 (improved capacity on climate change mitigation and impact reduction)

Remota® is both dependent on and encouraging for more collaboration and partnerships between actors in the maritime value chains in order to drive the industrial transformation forward. Through partnerships with companies and regulators, we can help develop the
industry in line with the sustainable development goals.

In line with targets 17.8 (enhanced use of enabling technology), and 17.17 (public-private partnerships)
